I have been busy over the last few weeks helping clients sort out their wardrobes.
I have also been doing a bit of sorting out myself and deciding my own fashion strategy for 2009.
This is a great time of year to plan and buy for the fashion year ahead, not only are there great bargains to be had in the sales, but, most magazines are covering the New Season trends, so with a bit of imagination old and new trends can be put together to create a stylish look.
Those of you who read my January newsletter can see some of the items I treated myself to during the latter months of 2008, not all my new clothing was expensive, my beautiful camel coat was an E-bay find, and my strapless, silk dress was found at a clothes swapping party!!
My most recent sale purchase is an on line order of knitwear from a company called Woolovers, which is due any day now. The great thing about knitwear is that the classical styles don’t go out of fashion, so simple short cardigans and plain jumpers will mix and match with most outfits, and clever use of accessories will turn plain into interesting and stylish!
When sale-shopping look out for leather goods such as boots, shoes and bags. Other great items to be buying in the sales are coats, trench coats and jackets; again plain, classical styles are easy to wear and can be customized to suit the current trend with accessories.
Talking about customizing outfits, my dressmaker Jutta is very busy!! My wardrobe consultations with clients have resulted in quite a few hefty piles of outfits, which need bringing up to date. I always find this part of my job very exciting, as it’s always great to see old outfits modernized. Alas I am not a seamstress myself, so I do feel sorry for Jutta when my imagination gets the better of me, and what I think will be simple alterations are either not feasible, or will require hours of toil over a sewing machine!!! But, she always manages to do a fantastic job, and never disappoints!
So have a think about your style strategy for 2009. Carefully plan your shopping trips, and make a list of things you need to update your wardrobe, and sale items to look out for. And why not have a look in your wardrobe and see if there is anything there that can be altered and given a new lease of life.
